Undergraduate Programs

What is a Curriculum?

A curriculum refers to the structured set of courses organized by subject to achieve educational objectives. Students are required to complete the designated curriculum presented to them. The requirements for completing the curriculum vary depending on the student's year of admission and affiliated department, and students must fulfill the credit and course requirements assigned to them in order to graduate.

Structure of Curriculum Subjects The undergraduate curriculum is composed of General Education, Major, and Elective Courses.

  • General Education Courses
These courses cultivate the foundational qualities and leadership expected of university graduates.
They include tools and basic concepts necessary for studying major subjects. General education courses are categorized into
    • Required General Education
    • Elective General Education
  • Major Courses
These are directly related to the specialized academic studies of the student's department. Among them
    • Core and foundational major courses are classified as Required Major Courses.
    • Elective major courses can be chosen based on various academic tracks.
  • General Electives
Courses freely chosen outside of general education and major courses, including major courses from other departments or majors.
  • Double Major Courses
Courses required under the curriculum of a second major, available after successfully applying for a double major.
  • Minor Courses
Courses required under the curriculum of a minor, available after successfully applying for a minor.
  • Teaching Certification Courses
Courses designated for students in teacher training programs, including both education majors and non-education majors, required to obtain a teaching certificate.
  • Military Studies Courses
Courses specifically designed for ROTC cadets (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps).

Curriculum Completion Requirements

  • General Education Credit Requirements
  • Major Credit Requirements
    • Revised major curricula apply to currently enrolled students. However, students admitted before the curriculum revision can have their completed revised courses recognized as major credits.
    • Major credit requirements are based on the year of admission.
    • Required major courses taken before the curriculum revision are fully recognized.
    • Any shortfall in required major credits can be made up by taking the newly designated required courses.
    • If a course was originally required but was reclassified as elective after a curriculum revision, it can still be recognized as a required course.
    • To complete a major, students must acquire at least the number of major credits specified in the graduation credit chart.

Advanced Major Program

  • A student is considered to have completed the Advanced Major Program if they earn 21 or more credits beyond the minimum required major credits for graduation.
  • From the 2008 academic year, students who do not pursue a double major, minor, or interdisciplinary major (including those in teacher certification programs) must complete the Advanced Major Program by acquiring at least 63 major credits (excluding transfer students).
  • Students pursuing a double major, minor, or interdisciplinary major must complete at least 42 major credits in the relevant department.
  • If a student withdraws from a double major, minor, or interdisciplinary major, they must fulfill the 63-credit requirement of the Advanced Major Program.
  • Transfer students must complete credits exceeding the minimum major requirement, including recognized transfer credits. They are also required to complete the required major courses of the department they transferred into.
